Creative
Problem Solving
Objective:
This is our 1-day
introduction to The Innovative Edge's creative problem solving process,
and the kinds of interactions that promote a more innovative culture.
Though it is our largest sized workshop (up to 20 participants), it
is by no means a lecture program. People learn by doing, working on
actual job-related challenges in both the full group and breakouts.
It gives participants an understanding and working knowledge of idea
generation, idea development and collaborative problem solving. This
enables them to take part productively in any initiative calling for
new and different thinking, and to actively support the overall innovation
goals of the organization.
Key Outcomes:
- A clear understanding
the kinds of behaviors that encourage and support creative thinking
vs. those that present barriers to innovative outcomes. Discussion
focuses on applying these to their typical work situations, rather
than simply remaining theoretical classroom concepts.
- With a working
knowledge of the problem solving process, participants will have the
ability to step into the role of idea contributor, and take part productively
in tackling key issues and challenges to the organization.
- New skills in
creative thinking and being open-minded to new ideas from co-workers.
- Increased job
satisfaction. It is inherently satisfying to exercise one's creativity,
and be called upon to contribute to working on tough organizational
challenges.
Topics Covered:
- Group
Dynamics - How certain types of behavior
can enhance or create barriers to innovative task accomplishment.
- Creative
Problem Solving Process - Participants are introduced to a methodology
of exploring new ideas and developing selected ideas into working
concepts. This is practiced in both the full group and several concurrent
breakout sessions, on actual work-related tasks they bring in themselves.
- On-the-Job
Applications - Time is afforded for plenty of discussion and feedback
on how to apply the principles and skills learned to their everyday
work situations.
Who Should Attend:
As part of an organizational
strategy to increase its innovation potential, this is the ideal program
for non-managerial employees, or those not currently involved in a specific
innovation initiative. By giving them a working knowledge of the creative
problem solving process, they can actively support such projects, and
if called upon, take part skillfully as idea contributors. Because of
its short duration and comparatively large class size, it is an excellent
program for supporting the objective of creating a more innovative culture
throughout the organization.

"My initial contact with Jeff and his work
was during a trip to the U.S. in which a group of "fast track"
managers from Siemens, of which I was a member, participated in a
one-day creative problem solving program which he designed. Although
this was just a small part of our overall mission in the states, it
was a real highlight of the trip. Many of my colleagues spoke of how
valuable the techniques were and wished the workshop had been longer."
